Our state definitely needs to build toll roads....don't know why LA is so opposed to them.

Texas and Florida don't have state income taxes. Makes it easier to bear paying for tolls. Also, the toll roads are in pristine condition. I doubt whoever manages the toll roads in Louisiana would give a shite about road quality.

LA $253B
Florida $893B

Not the end all, be all of metrics, but it doesn't help.

It's called having money, an endless supply of labor, much easier soil to build on, and no rift in the continent running through your state.

Louisiana will always be a shithole, especially as the whites and successful blacks flee the cities in droves. There's not a chance in hell any of us see a turnaround in our lifetimes. They won't have any money because the only citizens left will be on welfare.

You can't that war was fought and it was won. Louisiana will forever remain a backwater state for decades going forward.

You can thank Edwin Edwards fricking us over and this state having trashy people being proud of their own ignorance and politicians more than happy to take advantage of that.

Hit the state line and immediately the road went to shite
bullshite. That was true 20 years ago, but these days? C'mon.

I-10 between Vinton and Sulphur is pretty smooth sailing, other than the speed cops, with three lanes wide.

It's a little rough between Sulphur and Westlake, but from I-210 east to the U.S. 165 exit is pretty nice, too.

I remember the old I-10 through Louisiana, when it was literally a physically exhausting washboard of "da dut ta dut, da dut ta dut." Thankfully, that highway is long gone, minus a few patches here and there.

If Louisiana had anywhere near the infrastructure, economy, and school systems Texas did I'd move back in a heart beat! I miss Louisiana dearly, but it's very hard to justify moving back.

That was also I-12 eastbound past O'Neal in BR.

Im a recent Houston resident coming from Baton Rouge coming from Monroe so I have seen a good bit:

Toll Tags:
Wasnt aware of how expensive they are. First few weeks of work I took the Westpark tollway to the Beltway to and from work..was costing me $40 a week to get to work. So now I had to start driving on 610 to i10 which is awful. But the tolltag is convenient when youre in a hurry.

Loops
610 is always packed and traffic always sucks which was expected..Beltway is ok but again tolls. so meh

Great Public Schools
Single YoPro af so idgaf about this

Updated Roads
Idk what roads youre driving on but every road in the city is shite with the exception of downtown. The only good roads are the highways and I hate getting on them if I am just driving to get food or something

I eventually plan to return back to south LA to raise a family but for now I am thouroughly enjoying Houston and all it has to offer.

Peace
Im outtie

The sprawl of the suburbs and planned communities, while good for economic reasons, pisses me off. I grew up closer to Galveston and it now feels like Houston has made it there via strip malls and rows of houses that all look the same. Back in the 50's, when my grandparents moved over from Louisiana, Dickinson was the first place you could get a drink of liquor before going to the island. They got flooded out by a hurricane in Texas City so they moved over to the land of the Pines in Dickinson. It was kind of like Abita, without some of the weirdos.

The traffic does blow here. I keep the guns in the toolbox, because I know I'll shoot one of these idiots.

Too many foreigners and carpetbaggers. People come here solely with $ signs in their eyes rather than seeing it as a place to live. Its all about how to make the most and pay the least in hopes of returning to their initial homes. Developers turn rice fields and cow pastures into generic looking strips of houses, and they wonder why its always flooding in the burbs and the city.

Too many libs coming in. shite, we had a lesbo mayor. We had some Boston sounding motherfricker running for mayor last year. This used to be a cowtown per Charles Barkely.

The roads in town are tore up. I don't get how people drive those little cars and not bottom out.

Crime in the city blows. People aren't getting capped like in NOLA, but you really have to be aware of your surroundings and take preventive measures in town. I have an electric gate on the drive.

With all the said, its where I'm from and my friends and family are in the area, which makes it my home so I stay. I make good cash, live on 1/3rd of an acre just outside 610 with nice mature oaks and Magnolias, 90 minutes from Kyle Field, 1 hour from launching the boat in the bay, 1 hr from prime duck hunting (Eagle Lake, Garwood), and 4 hours from my Hill Country deer lease. Good concert venues and beer halls so for me I've got sports, music, beer, and the outdoors covered.

I have spent time in Abita and Covington and find that to be a really nice place to live . If I could make the dough I make here and live on the Tchefuncte and have a camp in the basin or somewhere in the salt then I could be convinced by the woman to move there.
