Sucks for your friend, but some states have deemed non-competes unenforceable after a layoff.

quote:

If you are in a state such as Arkansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, or Tennessee, or in the District of Columbia, you discover, to your surprise, that the non-compete is unenforceable.

I’m sorry that you were laid off. Not your fault. Sounds like you have a ton of skills and experience. I will be praying for you.

I sincerely feel badly for you and hope that your circumstances will change for the better soon.

It infuriates me the number of POS's that think it's funny to respond with utterly stupid remarks. What do they think they've accomplished? Do they think people are laughing at how hilarious they are? But, some character flaw compels them to post something like that in responses.

Everything on that homepage is talking about diversity and inclusiveness. If you're a white dude, I wouldn't even bother.

Thanks guys i really appreciate the good wishes!
I'm in a really good place so will do some personal time and while doing some job searches in the background

I see by your screen name it shows Chicago. Is that the part of the country you are in? Should be plenty of other opportunities if you want to stay in that area. If your background is in programming then you should have no problem finding another job .Good luck.

In Chicago and in IT?

What is your background? Coding languages? I'm on the database side.

My company has a decent tech footprint and is headquartered in Chicago. Actually have an opening on my team.

I may hire you just to rail some of my coworkers in the arse

On a serious note I'm always looking for a good ETL developer. Especially if you're capable of understanding data and not just reading a mapping document.

Sometimes the NC is part of the severance package. So if you get 6 mos severance, the NC is for 6 months, and so on.

Sorry to read that.

If it makes you feel any better, a group of colleagues and myself were asked to show more more empathy towards a client that inappropriately berates us with profanity and yelling.

We, like you, are also considering a career change.
