Aslong as natural gas doesn't drop too low the Marcellus will keep drilling. The break even is 32$ BOE. Cheapest in the country by far. Utica is another story

Mud just bought a new Ford with a V-8 engine. Just in time.

You're dumb. Most people will not be laid off or have a pay cut due to low oil prices. In fact, most people will now have more spending money which helps local businesses. Just different ones.

Welcome to a lesson on diversification. Most people who have only one skill suffer greatly when their product is not wanted. Farmers have been suffering this for years.

Yea so many people can do two different careers. 90% of south louisiana is locked into this aswell as most of the country.
Only having one set skill set that makes them the majority of their income

Disclosure- I am not in the energy sector; just an observer

1. That's thousands of jobs when there are millions of other Louisiana workers who won't be laid off.
2. Cheap oil means that there's more discretionary spending by consumers which means a boost to the national economy in many different sectors. Simply move to where the jobs go. It's a bit scary, but that's what I plan on doing. Not trying to be rude at all but that's just the nature of the beast.

You think these petroleum people wouldn't have thought the bubble was never going to burst. It was obvious. I mean the fact that "thousands" have already been laid off...

I don't think anyone who was in the industry pre 2008 thinks that way. Atleast 30% are my dad's age and about to retire. They worked through 3 big downfalls.

I just checked. We froze all new hires 2 months ago in preparation for the new year. Now this happened.
Posted on 12/29/14 at 6:32 am to Nado Jenkins83
We are still hiring, just way more selective cause there are some good hands that will be let go in the coming months.

We will hire DDs. Just not MWD. We got too many already. Most are straight out of school and will be the first to go. Will they stay in the industry with that bad taste? No clue. Another issue is the job market is flooded with kids straight out of school that really can't come in and produce right away. Not a good time to be a contract hand. They will be first to go. I work with 3 that refuse to sign on and get off contact status. Stupid huh?

I imagine SoLa and Houston posters concerned with dropping oil prices? I'm not sure if this will have a direct impact on us right now, but it could get concerning if things keep trending down.
It's comical how the automakers seemed to have finally prioritized fuel efficiency just as gas prices collapse. They seem to have terrible timing.

Do you have to have a costco card to get gas there?
Posted on 12/29/14 at 10:20 am to Nado Jenkins83
I appreciate you looking into it for me. I figured that would be the case with the price dropping like it is. Everything I had in the works and the job I was supposed to start at February has all been pushed back to the second quarter, I am just hoping they don't start resending my offers.
