Now encountering my second person who starts all e-mails this way. And these are people who e-mail me all the time. What the hell is this? Is this a generational thing? Are people being taught to do this in schools or something? Weird.

I open a lot of emails like that, but only if I haven't spoken to the addressee in some time.

I'm a late 40's Gen-Xer.

It's a person that thinks "Hope all is well" is too shorthand and informal. You probably read through their emails and find 70% was extra information you dont even need.

This is about as annoying as people who have quotes in their sig lines on professional emails. I don't need some terrible inspirational quote when talking with Karen from Accounting.

Good afternoon. I’m my first email to anyone of the day, I will go with good morning/afternoon. Even if they email me first.

Sounds like something that a dumb person picked up from business correspondence and doesn't know how to use in a way that it makes sense.

I'm pretty sure the sender is hoping the email finds you doing well in your life/health/etc. Is that confusing?

I agree with OP - that line is annoying as hell.

"I hope this email finds you well" usually precludes "please advise."

It's classy.

People should start ending their correspondence with "your obedient servant" again.

I assure you I'd rather start an email with "I have better things to do than to type this fricking email"

Way to show your age, grandpa! Why aren't you using Slack or Discord to communicate?
