The only two I can think of are Christianity and Judaism.
Christmas is the second holiest day of the Christian calendar after Easter.
Hanukkah is a minor Jewish holiday sort of like All Saints Day is to us. It is not even mentioned in the Torah or Protestant Bible - only in the Catholic Bible.
Christmas is the most important of all religions.
Kwanza, Festivus, Yule, Saturnalia, Boxing Day.
Don't be an idiot. Christmas is just another opportunity to make money.

Belle, you just reminded me the OP was talking about a catalog cover. Fair enough. Now here we are on the L.L.Bean website looking at a flannel shirt. ???
I asked “which holiday?” You went looking for clues right down to whether the lady following the guy with the tree was his wife. I’d ease up on who’s overthinking this one. I’m just asking questions, no need to get upset. (see, we can both play that game)
I’ll give you the stocking. L.L.Bean plainly uses the word “Christmas.” And judging by the stocking, the tree, and the ornaments you found, I’m gonna put you down for Christmas, too.
So if we both know which holiday they mean, why not just call it Christmas?

The company I work for is having a ”holiday party”, and it annoys me because it sounds so lame compared to a “Christmas party”.
Just be thankful that you have a job and a "holiday party" to go to.

LOL! You're going to buy stuff from them anyway. If not you, your wife will.

Because it's colloquially called the "holiday season", which typically includes right after Halloween through New Year's these days. When most people are doing their Christmas shopping.
The point is its truly not that serious. You'd have an argument if all of the contextual clues around the use of "holiday" wasn't very much Christmas-coded.
You also still failed to tell me who is calling it a "holiday tree lighting" at this point as well, but we'll let that pass I guess. Just went to Lowes today and everything from the lights to the decorations and tree section were very clearly labeled "Christmas". The tree section on the website is clearly labeled "Christmas Trees".

In my area? Or should I extend the search for more examples?
Houston, Belle. December 5 at City Hall. The city calls it the “Mayor’s Holiday Tree Lighting.” No need to let that one pass.

Exactly. “Holiday season” makes sense for the whole stretch. “Order in time for the holiday” was the line I asked about. And when you explained what most folks are shopping for, “Christmas” rolled right off the tongue.
I’ll give Lowe’s credit. They managed to say “Christmas Trees” and spared us both another afternoon of contextual clues.

we find it fricking hilarious that some Christians are so lacking in self awareness that they bitch when they aren’t directly and specifically catered to as though it’s an indication that they are being discriminated against
They act as if they are in the minority vs being the vast majority.
A continuing source of amuzement.
Don't worry, Christians. We all know that it is the "Christmas" season. It is impossible to avoid, regardless of how put upon you feel.

..,you know what the theme of these “holiday” ads, commercials, catalogs, etc are. They’re uniquely Christmas themed.

Since you’ve got his wife’s shopping habits figured out, this ought to be easy.
She orders the kids’ gifts “in time for the holiday.” They show up December 26. Is she glad they made it for Boxing Day, or do you know damn well which holiday they missed?

you can spare your brother in the law the phone call I figure they say “holiday” because they think it’ll sell more stuff. Fair enough. But if the wording matters enough for somebody in marketing to pick it, why’s it so fricking wild that it might matter to the guy getting the catalog? To the OP. You can think he’s petty. Hell, maybe he is. I’m just curious how you got from “this sales pitch annoyed me” to “I’m offended by how other people celebrate Christmas.” That’s a pretty good hike from the mailbox, Josh.
Speaking of good hikes, there seems to me to be a pretty good gap between “this sales pitch annoyed me” to “any piece of mail with this word on it not only gets thrown in the trash, but I’m going to start a TD thread informing everyone that it gets thrown in the trash!” I don’t know what the opposite of a strawman is, but it feels like you’re trying to build one to spare OP

In the early United States, Christians either heavily discouraged or outright banned the modern celebration of Christmas as secular and non-Biblical.
This is a great point that needs repeating for all the "war on Christmas" people like the OP.

Fair enough, Josh. The man did feel the need to notify the OT that he’d thrown away his mail. I’ll give you petty.
But if I’m being a little generous with “annoyed,” you’re taking a few liberties with “any piece of mail.” The guy named three catalogs. For all we know, the poor bastard still pays his bills through the holiday season.
I get why you laughed at him. I just think a guy can be petty about a catalog without feeling persecuted over it.
We can let Stinger answer for you if you want.

This country is intentionally giving itself away to people that fricking hate us and hate America being strong. I’m not even a Christian but it’s clear that this country was founded by Christians under Christian values. It’s also clear that the further we devolve into a secular hellhole that turns its back on Christianity the further the country falls.

When was the last time Houston had snow?

Posted on 11/8/26 at 5:00 pm to Stinger_1066
January, Stinger. We had flurries this year. If you mean snow that stuck, Hobby got three inches in January 2025. I remember the 2021 freeze pretty damn well, too. My oldest was eight weeks old, and we went three days without power in sub-freezing temperatures. Fun times, I remember it well. (eta: fun times being sarcastic. it was fricking miserable)
As for the poster, I appreciate you finding it. Belle asked who calls it a “holiday tree lighting.” There it is in Houston’s own fine print, right under “Deck the Hall,” surrounded by evergreens and red Christmas ornaments.
Cover up the fine print, Stinger. Which holiday do you see? If Belle goes back to L.L.Bean and finds that dad dragging an aluminum pole through the snow, I’ll give you Festivus. In the meantime, we both know what kind of tree Houston is lighting. So why not just call it a Christmas tree?

Alright, while I was being a bit hyperbolic over “word”, you know what I meant. OP’s “etc” seems to clearly indicate that if he receives a piece of non-crucial mail that clearly substitutes “holiday” for “Christmas”, he’s throwing it in the trash, and he wants the whole of the OT to know it.
But anyway, maybe we can bond over this: I was curious, so I ran a search on the PT for posts by him with the word “Christmas”. Guess who posted a nearly word for word identical thread last year… LINK
I feel like we can both have a laugh over this one

Señor, para que la Navidad sea más inclusiva, ahora hay que cantar «Felices fiestas». Lo de «mofos» se puede quedar.
Tampoco queremos excluir a quienes sienten un cariño muy, muy especial por sus madres.
