Can’t wait to struggle with the basics on the Audi I bought yesterday. They gave me and my wife about a 25 minute demo of all of the features and it was way different than any car I have ever owned. Battery in the back under the trunk. Fuel cap on the passenger side. Some special move to secure the hood when shutting, etc.. Set me up with an app for all kind of stuff. It’ll take me a while to understand this car.

Went to fill it up with gas and had no idea how to open the gas lid.

Used a relative’s Honda. Had to call to find out how to open the gas lid. There was a damned lever on the floor by the drivers side door. How random.

When I bought my last new car, I saw in the driveway with it running for about 30 minutes, going through the manual and fooling with the settings. Years later, I still have to look stuff up.

People (specifically my wife) laughs at me for reading the manual on every car we get but it is amazing what you will find in there.

Lots of cars come without key access to the trunk, do you know how to release the trunk if the solenoid fails? Where did they hide the jack in your new SUV? Where are the jump start points under the hood for your car with the battery buried in the passenger side rear quarter panel? How do you reset the maintenance reminder if you change your own oil?

There are also almost always a handful of little convenience features I could drive a car for years and never know they were there. This is especially true with today's extended infotainment systems.

Reading the manual may sound like some sort of torture to some but it will likely save you some frustration/embarrassment at some point and enlighten you on some cool features that you didn't realize existed.
