at least one nuke armed jet was launched from the US carrier

Nukes on board an aircraft carrier? I didn't think they did that.

Why the downvote - it was a serious question. Aircraft carriers are nuclear powered, but I didn't think they carried nuclear weapons.

Nukes are silo based, sub based, and bomber(B2) based.

My dad flew Skyraiders (single engine prop, carrier capable) in a Marine Special Weapons Squadron (nukes) in the 50's.

Interesting info - thanks for sharing it.

AD-4B
Specialized version designed to carry nuclear weapons, also armed with four 20 mm cannon; 165 built plus 28 conversions.

Anyone know if this is still in practice with current navy aircraft?

It's crazy how that incident is swept under the rug for pure politics.

He said that the Egyptian freighter that the Liberty was "mistaken for" was much smaller and lighter than the Liberty, didn't have an American Flag flying from the mast, and did not have all the antenna systems (which were specifically targeted by the Israelis).

With all due respect to the survivor, just because they were on board does not mean that they knew what was going on behind the scenes. He could very well be right, but it's not that far-fetched to think that he might be grasping at straws here. Just my opinion though, not trying to pass this off as a fact

We have gotten the H bomb down to the size of a large fire extinguisher. Us and the Soviets put those things on literally everything.
