I wish I had your problems. Life must be good.
You wish you were an effeminate male who prances around dressed like a dog and who bitches about the most inconsequential things imaginable?

I agree. I figuratively shite every time someone uses it.

quote:The entire point of the word literally is to say "This is specifically not hyperbole."
Instead, the use is pure hyperbole intended to gain emphasis
So it's not even hyperbole in and of itself. You're literally using literally figuratively, which is literally the opposite of literally's literal meaning, making it irony. Do you understand?

You should apply to Merriam-Webster.
Posted on 1/23/15 at 9:34 pm to The Third Leg
Saying literally can be used as hyperbole is like saying bad can mean good.
Which happens, but idk if it's in the dictionary

lit·er·al·ly\'li-t?-r?-le, 'li-tr?-le, 'li-t?r-le\
adverb
1 : in a literal sense or manner : actually -- took the remark literally -- was literally insane
2 : in effect : virtually -- will literally turn the world upside down to combat cruelty or injustice — Norman Cousins
Origin: (see 1literal ).
First use: 1533
Usage: Since some people take sense 2 to be the opposite of sense 1, it has been frequently criticized as a misuse. Instead, the use is pure hyperbole intended to gain emphasis, but it often appears in contexts where no additional emphasis is necessary.

Right, they've included the ironic definition.
Often times I'll say "Great" and roll my eyes when I actually mean "I do not like this." Should that be in the dictionary?

Well we need to find a new word since literally is ruined.
Or we'll never know if we're really serious
The millenials use "forrealsies" or something like that

Dude. Most of my posts are 60% joking, and the rest aren't

At the end of the day this this is essentially net-net the dumbest thread ever, literally.

You got so many people to bite. You literally might be tGOAT.

It's a crutch and a time waster. People typically use it when they can't produce a more exact or imaginative word, and often use it in a sense opposite of what they're truly attempting to express.
I just did a search of this board for instances of its usage and the results were not pretty.
You would probably like it if it were ever actually used correctly.

You have me mistaken for someone else. I prefer effeminate women, not effeminate men. I hope you're not too disappointed.

quote:Effeminate always refers to a man. The word you were looking for is simply "feminine." Instead, you just said you like trannies.

Ok I prefer feminine women. Better?
