Some men have become women when it comes to perceived luxury. I'll take a mountain cabin any day..

I hated the beach because the only beach I ever saw was the gulf coast. Then I was in the South Pacific and loved the beach. Now I’m back here and I hate the beach again.

I get bored at beaches. On Pacific beaches you can still do a lot of activities like running on the beach. Or surfing (I'm goofy stance).

the only "ridiculous opinion" here is not liking the beach.
Gulf Shores and Tulum are both "the beach"
I like going to one and have no interest in the other

Odd hill to die on.
how is my position of I enjoy the beach and the mountains and people that dont enjoy both suck, ridiculous?
how is my position of, getting a nicer place tends to make it more enjoyable, ridiculous?
i didnt say you needed those things to have fun at all, in fact the opposite. but getting a nicer place usually makes it nicer

and 10k on a week long vacation is not really crazy. lets say you spend only 4k on the condo. going offshore for myself and my kids is prolly going to be 1k easily for a decent trip. or if i do just me and a buddy and just take the kids on the snapper boats its gonna be that much or more.
golf for one day is a pretty penny. Wife is goign to want to shop so lets say between the 2, thats another 1k.
then between groceries and alcohol, 500 min. then another 500 eating out.
so we are at 7k now and then doesnt include nightly entertainment 2 or 3 of the nights plus any rentals.
can you do the beach for cheaper...hell yea. done it many of times and had a great time but it cost a ton now a days.

Sounds like a terrible value.
That's what most people are telling you. You love the beach that much, most people don't.
10k is too much for the average person to go to the beach. Go to Europe for that.

i get that....not arguing that at all.
all i said was that the nicer you can afford the better the vacation is. you seemed to take offense to that.
i love a good cabin in the woods or a tent trip along a mountain river too. i think its awesome and so do my kids...my wife not so much.
if you split a condo you could get away with doing the gulf coast beaches for 2k prolly. but you are essentially going to do nothing but the beach for 5 days.
you could do the beach for 4 days and be cheaper.
but you factor in gas, food, etc and it adds up quickly.

So the law of diminishing returns does not exist when talking about Alabama vacations?

People backpack across Europe and have the time of their lives.
They don't have to, they enjoy the experience. Not everyone craves luxury everywhere they go.

no they do, never said they didnt.
you keep inferring things.
all i said was many people dont enjoy the beach because they slam 3 families in a 1200 sf condo to save money and the niver you can afford the better the vacation.
i never said anything about value or that vacation vs another etc.
what part of that do you not understand?
what part of...if you dont like the beach and dont like the mountains....or really any vacation in general...well thats on you and you are prolly not a fun person...do you not understand?

and i get that. and said i truely enjoy those types of vacations too.
but when talking about a beach trip along the gulf coast...the nicer the place the better the vacation in general because you have more room, better location, better view, more accomadations etc.
thats all i was saying

you can do it for much cheaper...posted that.
but if i go, i want to golf, go offshore, go tubing and parasailing, i want to go to nice dinners, i want to grill steaks and shrimp, i want to drink good whisky and smoke god cigars...that shite aint cheap

Home lacks a certain je ne sais quois that is present at the beach.

But you don't. And the brag about your 10k Alabama vacation. Again, yikes

This is probably true if you're used to luxury accommodations. I would just rather spend money on something else besides a 7k house for a week in Florida. In fact, I would probably kick my own arse for not doing so. I don't get that much more value from upscale when I barely spend time in the room.
To each his own, but most people would dislike beach vacations that cost 10k every year.
