State officials plan to formally announce the completion of the $72 million widening of Interstate 10 between Highland Road and La. 73 in suburban Ascension Parish on Oct. 26.
The work includes new lanes in each direction on the 6.5 mile stretch, and all six lanes will be open for periods between now and then while workers handle last-minute details, including striping and guardrails.
Nearly 100,000 motorists use the stretch daily.
"This portion of I-10 is a critical freight corridor for Baton Rouge and New Orleans and a daily commuter route for thousands of residents," Shawn Wilson, secretary for the state Department of Transportation and Development, said in a statement.
"Increasing the capacity will mitigate traffic congestion and encourage economic development in the region," Wilson said.
"This success story is an example of what the state can do when we are provided the resources."
The upgrade includes new interstate bridges above Highland Road and Bayou Manchac.
Gov. John Bel Edwards, Wilson and others announced the start of the project on Jan. 11, 2018.
I think they need to keep going until they get to Highway 44 AND widen Highway 61 between Gonzales and I-110 in north Baton Rouge..... but this is an inch or two in the right direction.
I'd bet that CCLA and northern Ascension are both likely going to start requesting sound wall installations soon.

Been working on that since 1984. Glad they're making some headway.

Can’t wait for another loop and bridge study as well

They actually did a pretty good job with this project
Wrapped it up on time and much needed
It should have at least went to Highway 30 exit by Tanger
The Pecue exit interchange will help as well

.....and now the Siegen off ramp will be backed up half way to Highland....

The contractor did an excellent job on this one. It moved a lot quicker than I expected. I think the plan is to extend the three lanes to the HWY 44 exit.

It's beautiful and 20 yrs overdue. The Pecue interchange will help too.

Pecue interchange is supposed to connect to Reiger near Mockler. If this happens the Siegen off ramp traffic will improve as left turners will have another option for getting back to Siegen Lane by exiting at Pecue and making way to Industriplex light.

Done.
Everything in red are state or federal roads in the southern part of the BR metro that need at least one extra lane in each direction just to halfway catch up to current demand.
Not inclusive of a shite load of narrow two lane roads in Livingston and Ascension that need to be a 3 lane cross section with a center turn lane.

Anybody know the ETA on that?

What is in that building across Pecue from the interchange construction? Elevator shaft down to a government bunker?

Damn. That took less time than the Nicholson and Brightside/Lee intersection work that is still ongoing.

I don't have an ETA but we drive past it 400 times a week and they are putting in some serious work on that MFer. The new overpass is already going up across 10 at the same time the ramps are getting built. I'd be willing to bet it'll be open within a year.
The biggest issue with Pecue interchange was actually getting started. They had some property issues to get cleared up before they could begin.

This one? It's a Cox Equipment building. They are built like bunkers thanks to Gustav and FEMA money.
