I-10 Corridor Improvement Study - survey to voice your opinion
Posted on 6/2/15 at 12:44 pm

5 minute survey
Someone sent this to me
It's a survey of local folks to help determine the feasibility of improving the I-10 corridor
All of you armchair engineers can voice your displeasure and even give suggestions on how you think it can be improved.

Surprised he didn't link all the other threads regarding it on here too...

Well, I suppose reposting it will do nothing to incite more input
Thanks for your contribution

Glad to say I did it within the first day or three it was up.
Anyone that is pushing a plan that doesn't include a loop as priority #1 doesn't understand the problem.

A loop is a pipe dream at this point
There are cheaper available improvements that won't solve all of the problems but definitely give some immediate relief

Anyone proposing a loop as priority #1 without a financial plan to back it doesn't understand the REAL problem.

Nothing cheaper or faster than eliminating the Washington st exit.
Offhand I can't think of many more cheap and quick fixes. I hope there are more.

Does this study include the monorail to NOLA?

It's pathetic that the state capital cannot find funding for a loop that would solve 75% of the traffic problems here. Hell, just finance that bi!ch!

Because financial plans are already in place for the other options on the survey? Oh wait... they aren't.
Expanding the Interstate is going to be a 90/10 project (federal/state monies), 80/20 at worst. Funding a loop won't be any different than it was to fund I49.
The reason a loop is (or at least should be) the #1 priority is that until you stem the ever-increasing flow of pass-through traffic, any other option is only a placebo. There's a reason that the two most certain spots to encounter traffic problems are around the two splits. Extending Washington and/or College makes flow a little easier but not nearly as much as reducing that flow would.

I just took the survey. Thanks for posting it.
One question was which segment of I-10 experiences the most congestion. 5 or 6 segments were listed and I could only choose one! There should have been an All Of The Above choice!!!!!

I wonder how much the blue ribbon committee wastes on surveys like this rather than just building the loop

Except that you will need at least one new river crossing which will be near or over a billion dollars on its own. Without alternative funding sources (P3, tolls, etc), it will continue to be a pipe dream. That kind of cost would eat up the program or budget for several years, meaning there would be no other project built in the state. No way any group of politicians would ever agree to it.

Look at what Birmingham built with the 459 and get back at me. Very few extra miles added on by bypassing the city, 3 lanes each way, less traffic, mandatory truck route for thru traffic.
Figure out a way to connect Gross Tete, Plaquemine, Prairieville, and Walker with a southern bypass. NBR already has Airline and 190 to move around the city - most of the interstate traffic would be wiped out by getting thru traffic out and around the city.

That survey just got me so worked up about BR traffic problems

but this is unlikely to happen. go for the placebo and worry about the pipe dream later.

Which is why we are where we are now. This is something that should have been done 20-30 years ago.
