Because the damaged finger joint is not going to cause any sort of imminent structural collapse, regardless of what some of you self proclaimed structural experts have convinced yourself. The main problem with the issue is that it would likely cause vehicular damage or loss of control resulting in wrecks.
It is often argued as to who the originator is, but the quote remains very tru:
"It is better to remain silent at the risk of being thought a fool, than to talk and remove all doubt of it."

Couldnt happen to a more poorly run city/parish whatever, quite honestly. It's just a "this is how its always been done" type of place.
well wtf does that say about the rest of the state when the LC area has been the only real part of the state that has shown any real economic growth?

Very negative things.
Dont act surprised by this, you already know as does everyone else that lives there. It is why everyone gets their little panties in a bunch when someone says they need change and in a hurry.

Not very much. The last 8 years have been abysmal for economic growth in Louisiana while all of our neighboring states have done well.
The LNG boom has been great for LC- hopefully it continues as long as left wing politics do not frick that up

no i agree. but LC and Lafayette are two of the few places in the state that arent...thats how its always been done mentality
and the outlook on LC was good before the hurricane. its getting back to how it was but the economy overall is kind of stalled so we shall see after the election

One of the reasons I retired and no longer drive across those bridges daily
Posted on 6/11/24 at 2:55 pm to CSinLC
I cross 210 twice a day. Waiting for them to build the Deatonville bridge to 27 across the river. Boy would that save me some time.

I am absolutely amazed that they’re doing any repairs.

New bridge in Baton Rouge gridlocked in solidarity.

I don't think there are any requirements to work for DOTD (certainly not an IQ test). They have successfully turned Lake Charles into Baton Rouge Junior.
Oh, and let's spend even more money doing this repair instead of actually replacing the God forsaken bridge anytime soon. Let's just wait till it falls and people die.
Anyone want to know my true feelings about all this?

Is I-10 between Houston and Baton Rouge the worst stretch of highway in the country?
It's certainly managed by the stupidest people.

Would venture to say no one does

Careful with that route too. Prater/Maplewood intersection was also closed the other day. It is DOTD's mission to block us in as much as possible.

you make zero sense. sure they need to build the new bridge and they have made progress towards that but are you suggesting they shouldnt make this small repair and instead let traffic be fricked for the next 5 years while the new bridge is built?
pretty sure you dont need to be talking IQ test with anyone

Because being stupid is a requirement to work for DOTD, or any government job for that matter.

Interesting.
Have you lived outside the state? Or have you been a lifer?
This will tell the story.

Go review your local parish/city spending. I mean really look at it. Dont glance, actually take a gander.
The answers are all in the financials. Go and see where your hard earn tax dollars lay.
Id be willing to bet anyone who does this research would have some issues with how, where, why, who, the money is spent with/on.
