I guess these factories do require a place to dump their toxic waste
Sad that yall look at a river and wonder how much you can pollute it rather than as a thriving ecosystem
Better but still not quite there.

Sad that they always build these cancer factories in backwards economically depressed places like ascension parish

There will be so much everyday that the place operates.
Safety equipment, piping supplies, fire extinguishers, equipment rentals, I can go on and on..
Those 1,500 jobs that will work at the plant, will mean 10,000 jobs for the local economy.
Bingo - this is a huge win for the area. They built on the river to source raw materials from the midwestern US and from south America, so they will have port operations too.
Hyundai is expanding American production, and they need this steel mill to supply their plants. They also intend to sell steel to other automakers as well. It's the first Hyundai steel mill like this outside of Korea.

Hopefully we can get 3127 expanded around Donaldsonville and widen LA1 on that side of town.
Not super impressed with LaDOTD. Seems like a top heavy mess that's incapable of handling their own mission. Nothing really gets done unless a politician starts making noise.

Isn’t 3127 4-lane already in that area? Do you mean making the entire length of 3127 4-lane?

In what sense?
You want all the Asian companies to pull out of Louisiana to see what that would look like?

This can be a great win if it is handled correctly by Louisiana.
I hope LSU can get involved to develop companion curriculums around the technologies at the plant.
If you look at the various auto plants throughout the South, most all have university operations nearby.
Will say this - LSU and the local colleges do a great job developing the workforce for the industrial base along the river between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. A lot of this soft infrastructure is in place already. This mill is going to be hiring a lot of engineers, electricians, etc. And the industrial base in south Louisiana is very impressive. We suck at attracting white collar jobs, but we are pretty good with the blue collar stuff.
Workforce is always a challenge with massive expansions or shut downs. But that's not what I'm most worried about here. I'm worried about our highway infrastructure not being able to handle the incoming industrial expansions and the residential growth that will follow. Landry hinted at the presser yesterday that a lot of big new announcements are coming this year. Not complaining about that, but I hope that we are trying to get ahead of some of this.
Glad that Oschner's new ER is up and running nearby in Plaquemine. They might regret not going bigger than they did.

3127 doesn't even exist there. It sort of dead ends south of Donaldsonville where it intersects with highway 70. They widened a section of it south of town for the Formosa plant that is delayed, but the highway itself does not extend north of Donaldsonville.
The state needs to expand it all the way to I-10 and maybe even up to US190, running it west of Donaldsonville, Plaquemine, Addis, and Port Allen. Would be awesome if they can do that with a freeway/expressway format too.
LaDOTD has planned to extend it around Donaldsonville a few miles to highway 943, but it's unfortunately the cheapest possible format - 2 lanes, at grade crossings, and lots of intersections.

Seriously, that is the name of it? Could they have come up with a more generic name? Why not at least name the area somewhere in the name. I hope they didn't pay some PR firm for that.

Such good economic news for the state.

Good assessment of the situation.
Before he retired, I played a lot of golf with one of the administrators at RPCC. I know they busted their butts working with local industry managers to see what they needed and get programs to fill those needs.
As for infrastructure, you need only to look at the NOLA Airport as to how to put the cart before the horse and the mess that causes.

And just across the river in Burnside, Air Products is building a 5 billion dollar Hydrogen plant. Civil work there has begun. Traffic will be nuts in the area for the next few years.

Considering DOTD’s project backlog, it seems like somewhat wishful thinking to me. They’re making a dent in it with the influx of federal funding but they’ve got a long way to go from what I understand.
That being said, it wasn’t that long ago that DOTD punted basically their entire plan for the 415 connector to accommodate one of these mega projects, so maybe there’s a fair amount of influence from LED over there.

That’s a lot of money to spend for something will close when Louisiana takes away the tax breaks.
Hope it stays.
