Without the $30k price difference being the leading factor, I doubt this thing could actually compete for someone's dollar with the an S, 7, or A8. I'd buy a 5 series or E class before this thing all day every day price being equal. The engineering poured into that level of German cars over the last 35-40 years is just too much to overcome, they will continue to lead both classes.
The problem with Mercedes, BMW, and to a lesser extent, Audi, is that they have overshot with the engineering - and now it has become a fragile collection of very high quality parts. There was a time, not all that long ago, when Mercedes and BMW were bulletproof. Those days are gone.
Lexus and Infiniti are a little better, because the Japanese do give a shite about mid-term and long-term reliability - if western marques care about that at all - they don't worry any further than the J.D. Powers 1 year timeframe, and then they don't care - that's secondary market concern.
And that wouldn't bother me if new cars didn't cost so much.
So, you continue to be better off buying Honda (not so much Acura), Toyota or Nissan in the primary market for cars, Toyota trucks, or used Hondas and Toyotas, if you care at all about reliability.
Otherwise it's a crapshoot - Ford would be the only domestic manufacturer even within striking distance.
German? Probably Porsche, then Audi. The rest? Varies wildly from car to car, model to model and marque to marque.

The K900 Kia is equally as badass.
Luxury is not handcuffed by a handful of brands anymore.
We test drove a Nissan Rogue SL AWD over Christmas. It was fantastic on the interior and drove very well. I think thats the leader in the clubhouse for my wife's new car.

Hyundai cars have come a loooonnnnng way. The Sonata is very reliable and gets great mileage. Their biggest issue is still the stigma of the old Hyundai.
This is truth.

Kia is the same way
This is not. Kia has become pretty decent at designing "younger crowd" looking vehicles but they are still shite.

The Genesis looks pretty nice inside and out. If the Equus can be had for 15K off MRSP then its not bad. But at 55K+, people will seek other options.

they are really nice for all the perks you get, more than a car that costs 150k, hyundai is trying to do what honda/acura, toyota/lexus and nissan/infinity did
