Still a lot of uncertainty associated with the future track but Florida and the Gulf are in the clear. However, the signal is slowly growing for a new system to form in the WCAB and move north into the Gulf. It is still probably 7 days out until this system would start to form but it wouldn't be surprising for this to be another major given the season so far.

rds, are you talking about that low that shows up in the Gulf at the 360+hr mark or so on the GFS or something before than?

Pretty much over the warmest deepest shite in the basin.

Oh and did I see correctly today that the MJO should be coming toward the Atlantic over the next few weeks as well?

Whose expense should it be? They're American citizens.

This isnt New Orleans we are talking about. I don't think it will come to that. The culture is different.

Trying to stay relevant.

Just start posting about politics or football.

They paid like $3.5B in federal taxes to the US treasury. Most don't pay US federal income taxes, but they do have an income tax in Puerto Rico. The main deal is they're just incredibly poor. They're unemployment is astronomical - less than one million people have jobs on an island of 3.5 million people.

Misleading statistic is misleading.

125 million of 320 million people in the US work.

Ah, so its not less than 50% of normally employable people?

It's including infants and elderly people?

What is the % of people between 15 and 65?

THe one thing I found was the unemployment rates. It's not a perfect answer to your questions but the US rate was about 4.5 to 5 percent while PR's was 11 percent. Certainly not a good stat, much more on par with Western European countries.

Big convective burst over PR. There are going to be some incredible rainfall totals on the south side of those mountains. Flooding and mudslide risk going up into the evening tonight.

Outflow is tremendous and the eye is starting to warm back up too. She's got a window to ramp up strength for the next 24 hours or so before shear starts to make it's impacts.

Puerto Rico's participation rate is 40% - 4 in 10 people over the age of 16 are employed or looking for work. Among that 40%, the unemployment rate is 10%.

For reference, the US participation rate is 62% and unemployment is 4.3%.
