This island could very well become the next Barbuda
Only like 1000 people lived on Barbuda. 70000 live on Dominica

I have a buddy that lives in Tampa. He has an Ex and two kids in PR. He has been trying for days to get them a flight out. They were told the earliest they could fly is Friday.

Yep there wont be any flights going out Friday if this thing doesn't change course.

His best bet is to charter a private plane out of PR. Call one of the private charter companies on the DR to pick them up. Window is closing fast though. I think getting one from Miami is now out so you'll have to focus on paying for one from a nearby island. Probably looking at 10k to 30k depending on the plane.
I also agree with the poster above you probably won't see commercial air traffic until early next week in the best case situation.

CDC had people in St. Thomas working, and have evacuated them to Puerto Rico of all places.

Any electrical baws able to explain how these small islands electrical stay up for so long?
Some drunk person hitting a power pole around here puts me in the dark for a while. I assume the infrastructure is underground?

San Juan is fixing to get hammered.

She seems to be following the NHC track fairly well. I don't see a more southerly or northerly component which would cause a near miss.
Remember she just needs to miss by 20 miles to avoid this being a real disaster.

And Punta Cana right behind it.

Inventory changes fast during these events. If anyone needs, delta has a flight leaving at 2:19pm to Atlanta with 2 seats left from San Juan. Link to NYC but it's the same flight to ATL

Horrible damage. I am surprised that much foliage survived. Possibly because the storm didn't sit on the island as long as Irma?
Most of those photos are from other storms, not Maria. Most of the flooding photos are from Tropical Storm Erika in 2015.
Others are from Hurricane David, like this one:

Dominica will be forgotten about if PR gets a direct hit.

I thought it was odd that pictures were already coming out of there with no cell service or electricity.

It happens all the time in these disasters, particularly in sub-first world locations. Not sure why people love to share the fake photos, but they're rampant.
