Fort de France is the island due south of Dominica so its getting feeder bands as it moves further away from this island.
Also just saw on twitter that there are only two hospitals on Dominica and both have suffered damage but one has completely lost its roof and emergency generators.

The only silver lining is no part of the island will have seen the eastern eye wall where the strongest winds have been, but they're still getting Category 5 winds elsewhere.

They cut the water off in most of San Juan already. They are pulling the power down tomorrow at 6pm. When you lose the power here, you usually lose cable, wi-fi, and phone even if you have a generator.

There won't be a single leaf left on that island.

1 of our women's soccer players at the school I work at ( in intercollegiate athletics) is from Dominica... hope none of her family is still down there

So Castries should be fine? Maybe just tropical storm winds? Always have fond memories and a soft spot in my heart for the good people of St. Lucia down there from my Honeymoon 5 years ago.

My wife is flying down to Daytona Beach tomorrow for a week. In your best guestamation what are the chances she doesn't get to stay the whole week? Thanks.
Posted on 9/19/17 at 5:30 am to Homesick Tiger
Odds are, she'll be there all week.
The forecast is uncertain and the situation for Florida could change, but as of now the risk of US impacts are SC north.

Thanks. Appears finger crossing is warranted.

Yeah it is.
Unlike Irma where the general idea of a turn was solid, a lot for Maria depends on exactly what Jose does. The best models still have some wild variations run to run, so uncertainty past five days is pretty yuge.
