Grand Central Station around here right now. They should have it emptied by night time and I can pull it down for a much needed cleaning.

How do they ever actually feed because every time I’m watching they’re just constantly buzzing and bumping each other?

Great pics. Thanks for sharing. We have two feeders and there’s several at each feeder going at it. Fun to watch.

These are more western birds that have recently started wintering on the gulf coast instead of going back to Mexico. I’ve seen a black chinned at my feeder in BR. Some of these will hang around all winter. Mine have always left by mid October.

They are going crazy in back Brusly. A joy to watch. I am going through just under a half gallon a day…and well worth the time

I have 3 feeders up currently...there seems to be one dominant male for each feeder...the times I see others successfully feed are when more than one approach at the same time...one gets chased and the other(s) manage to sneak in briefly...

Try to snap a picture the next time you see one, if you have the chance. I've heard they're very occasional visitors in the Fall/Winter in some places outside their range. If they're starting to show up more regularly or in greater numbers, enough to actually be mentioned now, that'd be interesting.

Yeah, now I'm looking forward to seeing if any of these other ones show up here...

Definitely.

iNat has a spattering of observations, maybe a half dozen or so, of the Black-Chinned around Baton Rouge, and there are a few around Houma. I didn't check the dates on the observations.

Here in KY, they arrive in April/May.m Last year...I had a pair hold out until mid-Nov. before they left! That was a first.

Currently watching 4 at home....but we had about a dozen week before last. It was fast and furious...couldn't keep my feeders full.

We have about 6 or 7 coming regularly to feed. Love watching them. Amazing creatures.

I did a little better, picture wise, today.

I refilled it this morning and it was empty by 1:30.

They are not all that unusual along the Gulf coast in the winter. It's why it's a good reason to keep up a feeder or two all winter. Baton Rouge and New Orleans are good for this, any place near the Gulf really. I've had Rufous 4 times in the winter, and last winter I finally got Black-chinned (Florida Panhandle)

The numbers are definitely on the rise.

I’m kinda sad, I think they all left today, I haven’t seen any for the first time in awhile.
