the moon was formed from light earth crust...there is nothing of value there and no reason to maintain a base there

I think he's saying that going to Mars is a folly. Even if a mission were to succeed, the amount of radiation the astronauts would be exposed to would be a death sentence. Meanwhile, you're spending billions of dollars that could be used to clean up the environment here on earth.

wasnt this a main reason for looking for other possible destinations for the human race because the destruction by humans of this planet? or maybe that was a movie?

And do what with it? There’s no real reason to put humans on the moon or mars, certainly not until we get a far, far cheaper way to orbit. No one likes to hear it but unmanned is where the true space exploration takes place.
