Huge gnats that buzz dive at you -- what are they?

I've never seen these before and have no idea what they are. I live in rural Ascension Parish and suddenly every day when I get home in the evening, they actually swarm my vehicle and when I get out, they swarm my head, buzzing just like a bee and diving at my head and neck. They don't bite, though, but are annoying as frick. They're completely ruining evenings outdoors for us lately.
What the frick are they? Sorry, I don't have any pictures of them because they're fast as shite.

They are probably attracted to your hairspray and perfume

You see-ums, cousins to gnats.

It's not them. Those are way too small. It's not termites, either. These are more like small horseflies but I've never seen horseflies exhibit behavior like these things. These things fly in swarms and will follow you around, buzzing you, but won't bite. At least we haven't been bitten yet. We swat at them but they keep coming back. They're annoying little fricks.

Oh they bite and it's the spawn of satan

I don't think termites are this big. Aren't termites pretty small?

probably deer flies - they are attracted to light colors - you’re a magnet for them if you’re bald and if you have a light-colored vehicle

Prototype autonomous assassin drones. Be thankful you're not in their facial recognition database-yet.

Buffalo gnats. They leave nasty welts. Good news is that they only live about 4 weeks.

Deer flys and they definitely bite

I thought it might be deer flies too, but he said they don't bite.
Deer flies wear my arse out. I seem to be very sensitive to their bites. I was jogging once and a deer fly bit me right below my eye. It looked like someone punched me by the time I got home. I hate those bastards.

You missed the joke. He called 'em YOU seeums, not NO seeums

Deer flies are huge. These are little bastard gnats, but they pack a punch.
