We used to catch those things as teenagers , not nearly that big, grab it by the tale and throw them.. Picking them up takes some balls as you have to grab the shell behind the head. We would put them in a big box and see how big a stick they could snap.. All that ended when our parents found out what were doing.

If I had one of those I could go back to killing snakes and not worry about the rodent population taking off but I doubt one of them slow arse frickers is gonna catch a rat on dry land.

True story, I caught one that big from a pond in Shenandoah when I was in HS. I could have sat on and ridden him he was so big. We didn't catch anything all day long and last cast, I set the hook (braided line) on what we all thought was a log. It took me a couple minutes but I eventually pulled him up - had algae all over his shell, looked like a dinosaur when it surfaced. We weren't sober either so that made the experience all the more interesting. Supposedly, they live to be really old.

Hope they let that thing go alive. Probably older than the human who caught it. You live that long you deserve to be let go
Eta:
Is it alive? If so, let it go in a swamp somewhere

Isn't it illegal to kill that species now?
It should be...they are too rare.

Caught that little fellow a couple of months ago. He's nothing compared to this guy!

Is that different than a regular snapping turtle?

Looks like a super-sized to me.
How small a deal will you cater?

Have caught one that big before. Or close to it. Can't keep'em here in Arkansas. They're protected.
But delicious.

My uncle used to have one as a pet. His name was Dumpster because my uncle kept him in an old trash can. He kept him under one of his huge pecan tree's that was also next to a small river. Dump would go down to fish and be right back in his can when he was done. He never did us no harm and seemed to enjoy just hanging out under the tree all day.
