So if someone needed a full size pickup truck, but didn't have a need for 4 wheel drive, would there be a value in it then?

There's value in getting what you want no doubt, but in my experience you get much better trade return on 4x4 trucks in this area

If you aren't planning to keep a truck for the long haul, may be better to pony up for 4x4

Nope....if you don't need the 4WD then don't spend the money for it regardless of what people here say. Extra cost to buy & extra cost to fix if it breaks.
