How would life be different today had the Soviets beaten us to the moon?

Would the Soviets still be around in 2018? Would anything be different other than the history books?

It wouldn’t change the fact that they went bankrupt, and probably would have exacerbated that so the collapse was sooner.

The actual landing would be meaningless in this discussion but the fact that they would have had to advance their technology faster than us could absolutely mean a totally different outcome IMO
