You highlight the critical part: time. It really does begin the day they come home from the birthing unit.
It's pretty upsetting when I see young kids, toddlers even, staring at the tablet in their hands. The parents stick a device in their kids hands because it keeps the kid distracted, like a virtual babysitter. And it quickly becomes a habit that's difficult to break. Sure that's more time for the parents to 'relax' or whatever, but they're replacing the role of a parent with a disconnection from reality. It's lost parenting time during a critical age which they can't ever get back.. it's messed up.
