Blow me baw. I just noticed it when I read it. Autocorrect on the phone is tough when your driving.

I turn that off when I'm texting and driving. I don't like accidents in my spelling.

I love it when stupid people blame their stupidness on autocorrect.

I work at a Sheriff's Office that employs a couple hundred folks. We have people all over the intelligence scale, top to bottom. There are also folks that are honorable, thieves, liars, brave, cowards, dependable, lazy, hard working, caring, and corrupt.

I had one HS friend become a cop, he was a smart guy but he always wanted to be a cop, as opposed to falling into it. On average I would guess cops are on par with the rest of society, which isn't saying much.

Why not get rid of those that have the negative characteristics? Seriously asking.

That said, I have a friend who was a cop for a while after getting out of the army. He went to college, served as an army ranger, and then became a cop for a short while. He is very smart and I respect the hell out of him, but his kind is not common

It's too bad we can't get more guys like this.

I'm torn when it comes to giving more money to police departments because on one hand, I think police officers should be paid more (as a way to draw better candidates), but on the other hand I see how wasteful police forces are with their money. They don't need a fleet of supercharged tricked out tahoes or armored vehicles. How about just use that money to pay officers more.

The average police officer/sheriff deputy/state trooper is probably around the 30 percentile. The vast majority of all LE is below the overall average. It is a major problem, but everyone is too sensitive and immature to discuss that fact. Over half of all LE are former military. How many intelligent people go into the military? Not many. The vast majority of all military people enter the military bc they aren't smart enough to have other options. That might sound harsh, but it's just a fact.

I hadn't seen it but it's appropriate.

this is a good point:

quote:

Well, the only real qualification required to become a cop is desire to become a cop so that should tell you something.

I had to explain in detail to the simple-minded policeman the other day that I had to actually be in the school zone in order to be doing 35 in a 25 school zone, and as his car was parked RIGHT NEXT TO THE SIGN which indicates where the school zone started, there was just no possible way I could have entered the school zone without passing his car first. He just couldn't seem to understand that simple concept.

He gave up and "let me go" when my daughter started laughing at him for not understanding that.

I have a friend who had an academic scholarship to Rice, and basically the world at his fingertips. He failed out of school then came back to Louisiana and took a job as a clerk at a gas station to make ends meet. He got tired of that and enrolled in the academy. He was a cop for about 2 years then left and went back to his gas station clerk job because he said he made more money and dealt with more competent people there.
