It’s really block to block. Not as bad as some areas but definitely not the safest.

If I was a real estate investor, I’d be buying up what I could afford there. It’s gentrifying fast.

A reality of New Orleans is that the "good" parts are all within walking distance of multiple "bad" parts, and vice versa.

Personally, I would stay in Treme. But I wouldn't book my parents (who live in a nice safe suburb up north) there. If you're concerned, look for places in the Marigny or Lower Garden District and pay a little more.

Not sure what the stats say, but the Marigny certainly feels safer, especially at night. It's been mostly gentrified for a long time, and there's a lot of music clubs and other nightlife on Frenchmen & St Claude & around, so there's a lot more people out and about.
