I spend less than $400 month cooking
We spend about $700/mo for a family of 3. Granted, the youngest is a SR in HS and not home for most of the meals. We do mostly just cook at home though.

I guess this could be a point of pride? It’s not difficult to eat for cheap but it typically means bulk meals eating similar things over and over
I do eat the same thing for most meals, but the point is the trope of eating out is the same price of cheaper is asinine. I could double my expenditures and would equal what he’s spending.
If you want to eat out every meal and can afford it, be my guest, I don’t give a shite. But it’s not cheaper

Decent prices on food and drink, happy hour is actually reasonable prices. $5 for a tall Modelo is my jam.

The only lunch had by our family that is prepared at home would be sandwiches that my wife makes for the kids for school. Every other lunch meal is either picked up somewhere and eaten at home or the office, or eaten at the restaurant.
We try to eat dinner at home Sundays through Wednesday. I'd say half of those meals are takeout orders that we eat at home. We cook the rest. I can't recall the last Thursday, Friday, or Saturday meal that was not in a restuarant unless we're hosting a party or having dinner at a friend's house.

3-4 nights a week. Have standing reservations at the same restaurants for Friday and Saturday nights for over three years.

On average, once a week at most. It’s just me and the wife now. I always cook on Sundays and the leftovers last us til Tuesday night. She cooks on Wednesday and the leftovers last til Friday night. Saturday night is date night so we usually out to eat or sometimes we go have supper with one of our two kids and their families.

Not as much as we used to. About twice a week.

On the road a lot so I would say at least ten of my 21 meals.

I think restaurants are better now than they’ve been in my lifetime
Massively disagree. At least half my favorite spots have gone to absolute shite the past 4-5 years.
shite I had a dish at a local spot that I thought was a stone cold lock of the century to make it on my deathrow last meal. Used to get it at least once a week. That was about 3 or 4 years ago.
Now that same dish is barely edible. Bland as hell and poorly prepared most of the time. I get it once every two months or so praying it's back to the way it was, but it never is.
I feel like a lot of places had to switch up ingredients and stuff in the covid frenzy and some/many have stuck with the substitutions and they are noticeably worse.

the quality of food in restaurants is rarely better than we can do at home.
This.
I cook all the time these days, and on the rare occasion the wife and I go out I’m always left underwhelmed

With poor front-of-house service these days who knows what goes on back-of-house so we eat at home where we know the food is clean. I never have immediate explosive diarrhea this way.
Plus, at home for $100 I can drink myself stupid and eat too. The cost of eating out is equivalent to 25% or more of our monthly HEB delivery cost.
