Word. Yea I mentioned growing pains earlier and I chalked it up to that. Its obviously a great service. Hopefully it will make the cab service better because it is definitely putting the hurt on them already.

I read the whole post. He is lying. There is a GIANT warning, in fact, a whole separate screen you have to navigate past to accept surge pricing.

Something else to factor in, the Uber effect. I'd hope yellow cab now has enough incentive to be more timely, mostly because of competition as well as decline in their demand.
Did yall call the switchboard or was it a driver's cell?

I like how in San Francisco it has the Taxi option if Uber is on surge pricing.

Switchboard. If its just a random night/time, I just call the cab stand. If its 2am on a weekend and we didnt plan ahead, Ill go to the cell numbers I have.
Uber effect is already happening I think. My buddy asked his cabbie the other night and the driver basically said they are reacting to the competition because its already hurting business. I imagine the cabs did a lot of business with the post college crowd(bulldog, pelican, etc) crowd and you know all those people are app/phone friendly, so the cabs will be forced to improve or maybe just go out of business

Yeah, that guy was blatantly making shite up.
I'd almost say the redundancy in conformation that you understand there is surge pricing is annoying.

It is annoying, but necessary to prevent idiots from unknowingly spending all of their money.

Wait.
You don't trust jones and I about yellow cabs because they're always just fine for us and we have no problems?
Because we have had nothing but good experiences with yellow cab, we lost validity? That makes no sense.
All of our "regular" drivers have been gone a long time and I haven't called a cab in 4 months before Friday night.
Flat out, it's not as horrid as people make it out to be. It's not wonderful. But it's fine if you aren't scraping the bottom bits until 2am.
Is Uber better if it's 2am and you're trying to get home with the rest of the city? Sure.
But yellow cab got to me almost instantly Friday night.. Like they always do when I call at 1-130am.
I understand some people need those extra 30 minutes in the bar, in which case uber is their best bet.
Both serve their own purposes.
I would have easily gotten a cab at the time and area I was Saturday after the game/Fred's. I used uber because I was so impressed in Houston. It's STILL a fine company. But in no way is $21 worth 1.7 miles unless one of us was passing out on the side of the road.
Had I left an hour later, I'd have possibly paid the $21 happily to not wait at 2am with all the other unprepared people.

I wonder if cabbies are turning to Uber.

They can't.
They signed a clause. Valid 2 years after employment termination.
Idk how enforceable it is but its what my cab driver told me.
