I remember visiting with my wife's friends in DC back in 2011 and the numbers then were gross, so I imagine it got worse.

But I think that's what you can expect in an area that is protected by increasing government spending every year, outside of 2007 to 2009, of course.

I have a cousin who lived in Arlington in 2012 and I think their rent was ~$3000 for a 2 bedroom apartment.

housing, using the median rent for a one-bedroom apartment in each city

no thanks

quote:

San Francisco $119,570

double no thanks.

quote:

Austin $53,225

seems pretty low.

also, I doubt anyone lives "comfortably" in these cities on these amounts. more like you're eating Ramen in front of Netflix every night.

Looks like we need some deflation. Thanks Obama.

he rental market is brutal. Generally not San Francisco or New York bad, but very close.

it's bad, but generally by all accounts DC is not as expensive as the Bay Area, NYC, or Boston (which is brutal, I'm living it)

Boston is doable. What area are you in?

Out by Harvard, nice. My wife and I had a place in the West End during her fellowship. We were splitting time between NYC and Boston. Now, that was an expensive year.

over 500sqft, under $1900 is pretty much impossible now.

I just had to live near the T, there is zero option to park at my office. Otherwise, i wouldve gladly gone out a bit further for more reasonable priced areas

Yeah, that's tough. We were paying about $2,400 for the 1 bedroom in Boston and $2,200 for the studio in NYC.

I start my new job in Davis Square tomorrow. Can't wait to have all those restaurants right outside my office door.

We are not in Boston anymore. Full time NYC. We are in contract to buy a place, just waiting for the co-op board to approve our application. Buying a place in NYC is such a got damn process.

I've only been to Five Horses once but it was really good. Great beer menu.

Painted Burro is pretty solid for tacos (by Boston standards) as well.

Damn...I'm hungry now.
