No I work for a private O&G company. I assume they get the insurance through Northwest General?

You aren't THAT old. I just don't understand how the hell you came to pay $30,000/year for insurance.

My wife's uncle pays that much for just him and his wife.

He has all kinds of preexisting conditions. She smokes. Has been in ten car accidents in the last few years if that matters. All her fault.

He's rich out of his mind though, so I've always assumed it had something to do with his income.

What's your take home if you don't mind me asking?

I nearly went the self-employed route four years ago and didn't go through with it because of healthy insurance. Obamacare said I was too rich for subsidies at $55,000/year.

No subsidies that I qualify for. Salary set in mid 60's (excluding insurance premiums), but k-1 brings it a lot higher. I don't qualify for squat :(

It's a good problem to have I guess. Conversely, maybe I need to shop for a new CPA.

Thanks privilege!

Also, the group plan was the way to go after the most recent premium increases on individual policies. Are you in LA?

$21,600 a year, with the minimum subsidy.

No subsidy = over $31,000 a year

Alabama.

This was back in 2013, so I'm sure things have changed. I went through the exchange and found a $600/month family plan that offered pretty shite coverage. I was floored that 10% of my yearly salary as the sole earner for a family of three would go to healthcare. We would have gone broke if anyone actually got sick.

It really is broken as shite and quite a shame. My premium is higher than my mortgage. I had a pretty good insurance agency work with me here in Baton Rouge. With all the changes taking place, it was the easiest route. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone in Alabama that I can recommend.

Which companies still operate in your state?

No shite. I pay 75 bi-weekly and my employer puts 1000 per year in HSA. 2500 deductible. Full dental and vision as well.

I pay $0.00 and don't know what my deductible is because I only go to the doctor once a year for an office visit, which requires a $25 co-pay. No dental coverage.

As a group, dentist in Louisiana are a bunch of old unhealthy farts that makes us top heavy on expenses. Our group is not spread out over any group other the 3-4K guys. They have us corralled in and are squeezing us for money
