I honestly have very little interest in visiting the northeast. Seeing NYC is pretty low on my list of priorities, although I do hope to someday.

I promise you it's not all grime and blight in the NE. History is everywhere, and NYC is where the world spins.

There wasn't much too it. We drove through once on the way across the country. And we stayed there in the little bit of Iowa on the Omaha side of the river when we went to Omaha in 09. Around Carter Lake.

Small world. One of my best friends from childhood, a guy I go see when I return to my parents home outside of WCF, is in that immediate vicinity.

How do you enjoy the burnt cereal smell? Have you been down to Kinnick?

In Iowa, the aristocrats refer to that subregion as Counciltucky

Iowa, west of I-35, is a terrifying proposition.

I have been here for about 2 months so haven't done much of anything at all. I am working 2 jobs 80 hours a week

This past weekend I just played at the golf course my apartment complex is on for both Sunday and Monday when I was off

Haven't noticed any smells or anything yet, though the bugs were annoying at the golf course

That Quaker Oats plant is the scourge of Cedar Rapids, The City of Five Smells.

If you're there in the fall, head on down to Kinnick. The brass have ruined much of what used to be legendary but it's the states premier social event, outside of the State Fair.

I'm not a huge fan of Cedar Rapids, never have been. How did you end up there, on a contract or perma/semiperma?

I knew a girl in college that was from CR. She had a great T-shirt that read

Kiss me where it smells - on the front

In Cedar Rapids - on the back

Oh, I know. That's not the reason. I know it's quite lovely, but it's just never interested me (plus, I'm so fricking sick of hearing about Boston that I could vomit). I just prefer to hit the Pac NW & Canada first. Then maybe Puerto Rico or something out that way.

Another recommendation, PITTSBURGH, PA.

I'm going on record here, I've never been more pleasantly surprised by a city than I was by Pittsburgh. What a great town.
