It will never be so. Much of it is federal land.

I contemplated what could be worse at that time. The only thing that I came up with was being dropped in the Amazon with a Rambo knife and a loin cloth.

I've got my issues with the Feds, but public land isn't one of them. I dislike how much of it is managed, but love the idea of open, unfenced wild spaces available for anyone to access. Unfortunately some parks are being "loved" to death.

I hear ya. I did it once and got followed by a guy wearing a Alabama cap who tried to convince me (wearing and LSU cap) that he was a LSU fan. Of course, the story evolved in to his "needing gas money to get back to his baby in Louisiana."

There is always time. Take a New England road trip vacation and head on down to DC, knock out a bunch.

23, if we're counting DC as a state. Will add 5-6 more on a road trip later this summer.

That's actually pretty sweet.

Where did you live in Iowa? CR or DSM?

Not including airports or states I've driven through

Arizona (college), Arkansas (family, multiple times), California (college), Colorado (college), District of Columbia (work/college/Boy Scouts), Georgia (family), Illinois (family), Louisiana (home state), Maryland (college), Mississippi (mostly family), Missouri (family), Nevada (did an internship in Vegas one summer), New York (college), Ohio (college), Pennsylvania (family), Texas (family/college), Virginia (Boy Scouts)

I think that's it

States I haven't been to;

North and South Dakota
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Iowa
Missori
Nebraska
Montana
Maine
Oregon
New Hampshire
Vermont
Massachusetts
Rhode Island
Alaska
Hawaii

So that makes 34 states I've visited.

My best vacation ever was when the wife and I started dating, we flew out to Seattle, rented a convertible Mustang, and drove the coast to San Diego, camping along the way. A must do road trip for any American.

Will be making this drive shortly hopefully, but from SD to Seattle.

That's a cool map. I bought a big laminated wall map of the US/Canada when I first started doing a lot of big motorcycle trips to track stuff like that. Unfortunately I got married and for some reason my wife isn't a big fan of having a massive map on the wall anymore.

I think I still have it rolled up in the basement though.
