Average commission for me was $450. I sold, on average, 14 a month with a bonus at 12. I made 80k a year. Now I'm in F&I and should hit 6 figures this year unless the economy nosedives.
I see a lot of bs in this thread from people that don't have a clue. The old days of sleazy car salesman is pretty much gone with the internet. Anyone can find a good deal now, it's your professionalism that sets you apart.

Will get someone in a boat load of trouble with the manufacturer. I don't know what time period you were selling, but FCA audits the hell out of their dealers to make sure stuff like this doesn't happen.

it doesn'tt work like that IRL

when you take a out a loan they loan company will say something like

okay approved, 5%, 60 months, 140% LTV

okay let me tell you about the the biggest sale i made lol.

woman has a black mazada 3 in the back getting workoed on just briowsing. she was hot as frick so i was honestly trying to frick lol, but i could tell she really liked the miata that i knew was old as frick it was a new car that was a year old it had been there forever. so mazada was offering 2k rebate to get rid of it.

they mention they had another cdar at home that they went and got as a trade in. it was worth 3k.

my hook to her was like hot woman lol you getting this car worked on, i can have you walking out of here with this new miata and lower your payments without you putting money down. so her current note was like 406 a month. new sales manager give me the first four square blows her out the water at 459 just throwing shite against the wall to see waht sticks and he knew i was good enough to not lsoer her.

she really likes the car and she's like well... what if i put 2 thousand dolalrs down.. i'm like okay... let me see. so she brings 2k and i get it down to 415 a month... then i was like look.. how about we stretch it out another 12 months and we can get it under 300... she's like okay lol..

even stilkl i got it to 403, and she signed.

i made so much money on that deal, they wouldn't tell me how much i made utnils he drove off because they were afraid i was going to lose it lol. i made 6,000. me. not the dealer. me lol.

she did get the rebate lol. she just decided to pay full sticker, not take the rebate lol, and give me 2 thousand dollars and a trade in on top of it.

When combined with his other posts, I think he is saying that amount was after the increased percentage bonus from hitting his sales target, as well the the bonus the dealership paid the salesman because he sold a previous year's model that was still sitting in inventory.

frick that. You have to be a sleezy shitbag to be a successful car salesman. There's no way around that. You have to choose the weak targets and frick them into the ground. That's how that salesgame works.

the way i understand it, they make around $500-$1000 commission per sale depending on the price. the more upgrades and option packages the more they make, if they sell a "basic" package at list price of just below its right around that $500 mark

Nope. Salesman make nothing on new usually. $125-250 on the front per car because the markup is already low before lots start whoring them out. Used average is around $500-$600 for a better than average salesperon. $1000 commission on one unit isn't common at all, an average salesperson will probably have one out of every 10 sales. $300-$400 for a weaker saleperson is about average per car. Usually add-ons don't translate to more commission unless it's added as an addendum and marked up.

Lots of ignorance here. I've been in tons of sales meetings. They are not training on how to screw people. That's old school. Now it's about customer experience. It's about giving great customer experience for more commission like a waiter would. The exceptional salesman can do that and still have enough balls to overcome hurdles (objections).

I worked at Lakeside Toyota. If you sold it at sticker you'd make about 1000 per sale.
Lakeside Toyota back in the day was a den of inequity....crazy stuff went on there.
