You just keep on thinking those 10 plastic sacks/week you're electing not to use actually makes a difference. If you want special bags then you should open it up yourself and bag it yourself after the cashier checks out your item.

10 a week???

Between double bagging and separate bags for bread/eggs/cleaning products...I would come home with almost twenty of them in one trip to the store that I would visit twice a week.

That was just groceries too. What about the occasional trip to Wal-Mart?

Or how about that six pack you grabbed on the way home for the heck of it?

Adds up real quick when you multiply that by the hundreds of millions of other selfish dipshits in this country alone.

But keep telling yourself that inconvenience trumps ecosystems collapsing.

As long as you bag your own its not a big deal but those rotating bag things aren't meant to be able to hold those massive bags and it takes forever just to open and place them somewhere they aren't tipping over.

Some of you people are insufferably smug... And I use canvas bags as well.

And to others, I doubt that reusable bags make that much of a difference to your overall time spent shopping. Some of us live in places where they charge you for those plastics bags anyway, so A LOT of people buy their own.

We have re-usable grocery bags. Which are actually nice when you remember them as they hold a lot more (less trips to car). But we forget to bring them 50% of the time. We save those plastic bags when we forget. Have a little dispenser in the pantry. I hate when we run out. I use them for all kinds of stuff.

I forget them more often than I'd like, but I like the canvas bags. You can fit so much in them so all you have to do is sling the ~2 bags over your shoulder when you get home instead of loading your arms up with stuff.

Entirely different world here vs. west coast. I'm in CA several times per year, and they look at you like you have 10 heads if you get even one plastic bag. Here, you got Kendra working the Albertsons line double bagging every single item individually for you.

What happens to all the plastic bags in the Atlantic Ocean?

They use the Panama Canal or go the long way around Cape Horn.

I always try to bring my own bags. Not only is the use of the bags horrible for the environment, but it is so much easier to carry 3-4 big canvas or reusable plastic bags inside than the 30-40 that a walmart cashier will give you. I've seen them literally double bag almost every single item separately. So fricking stupid....

I'd really like to see LA or EBR pass an ordinance that charges for the bags, similar to other cities. It could possibly help a little with our litter problem.

They are much more environment conscious in Cali than anywhere in the South

You think you not wanting to use plastic bags is so important that you're gonna hold up the line and make your transaction take 2-3 times as long because they have to try and set up those huge bags without them falling all over the place?

Huh?

If anything, it's quicker with the canvas bags because you can fit so much more in a single bag.
