Ours was probably 50-60 feet.
Channel master rotar.
No cable in our area at the time.
It was fun to pull stations early AM/Late PM.
VCR and video disc players were important to us.

Another oft-forgotten tech relic of the time.

I remember having to hold the antenna to keep the picture clear. My body basically was the antenna. I guess I was around 5 and got to see Madonna rolling around in a wedding dress live at an award show...the look on my dad's face was priceless.
I also remember the warmth and smell of electricity rising up out of the t.v.

I did. I lived in Avoyelles Parish. We could get KALB out of Alexandria really clearly. 2, 9 and 33 out of Baton Rouge was fuzzy most of the time. KLFY channel 10 out of Lafayette came in clearer early in the morning. I used to watch " Passe Partout" (pahs pah two) which was an exclusively Cajun french speaking program on 10. It sucked when you could barely get a cartoon on a Baton Rouge station on Saturday morning. Sometimes a slight turn of the TV antenna outside would make it clearer. A friends dad worked for Zenith and they had a wired remote control that would mechanically turn the stations on the TV so you didn't have to get up and do it yourself.

Dad and one of his friends showed up at my house as I was walking out the door. They asked where I was going and I said I needed to adjust my TV antenna. My house was a 2 story house.
Dad offered to get the ladder and I told him I didn't need it. I pulled myself up the antenna pole about 25 feet just using my hands in about 10 seconds , adjusted the antenna with one hand and then came back down the same way.
I walked in the house and checked the TV walked back outside and did the same thing just using my hands to get myself up the antenna pole and back down.
I asked them why the funny looks they said they couldn't believe I could do that once let alone twice going up and down the antenna pole like that.

Grandparents in Natchez would wear my arse out if I turned the dial too quick.
