I wash clothes every two weeks though so it evens out.

My husband uses dryer sheets, I do not. Sometimes they leave oily spots on my blouses and I HATE that. I need to check the dryer more carefully after he does laundry.
I've seen these spots on a couple of dress shirts of mine as well and never knew where it came from. Interesting.
So is the liquid preferrable to the sheets in that case then? Did not know this

White vinegar works well also. Of course only add like 1/2 cup to 1 cup per full load in washer (final rinse cycle).
The risk of fire is increased by not only the waxy build-up but increased fiber deposition due to the wax in the vents, inside machine and through house duct work. Not many people take the time/effort to unhook the vent and clean it out. You'll be surprised at how much crap gets in there without adding the softener sheets crap unnecessarily.
P.S.
If your liquid softener gets thick and lumpy, add white vinegar till it smooths back out.

If you all are looking for scents, go with the scented crystals that you add to the wash. Lasts longer the sheets. I like to rotate scents with each wash. So I have a few different varieties.
On a side note, there's nothing better than the smell of "Mom's" wash.
And this thread has ghey all over it. But I'm in anyway.

I always use liquid in the wash and then my clothesline in the backyard. I obviously have a dryer but for some reason drying them outside just makes them seem fresher and your clothes don't get beat up like in a dryer, plus they dry faster.

I use none. I like my clothes, especially my jeans, to feel crisp and rigid.

We use one or two. My MIL has this ongoing ball of fabric softener sheets thing going on. She rarely throws them away, so at any one time she'll have 20 or so in there. The first time I saw it I thought she washed/dryed a roll of toilet paper or something.
