I appreciate your concern. Truly I do. But don't worry about me. As sad as it was to lose my mom, I did not even cry at her funeral. I'm just not an overly emotional guy or someone who needs anything outside of myself.

To me, it seems that you are dead inside and you need to find a purpose to live again.

It's hard for others to comprehend someone like me, but I am that rare exception that is made to be an island. I don't understand most people.

Because you're dead inside. That's a highly unusual thought to be ok never seeing a family member, friend, or acquaintance again. You need to pick up a hobby and meet people.

Oddly, I often crave isolation but once I have it after a short time (like a couple of hours) I start getting weird.

Oh I disagree. It provides you outside perspective to contemplate with.

It's stimulus. It isn't interaction with other people which is the scenario. If we're changing it to no stimulus and locked in a blank room with no books and nothing to do then saying a week makes sense. Maybe even much less time like a day before things get nutty. But if a person has something to occupy his mind, such as working for survival in the wilderness, then isolation becomes more tolerable.

And as to your second point, people in essence haven't changed for thousands of years, even with all the modern trappings. In general we could fall into old habits pretty easily.

Well, you yourself put it best on the only way we could get out of modern trappings: Survival. Unless its a survival situation, I imagine everyone would go nuts quickly. The will to survive would keep people competent and sane though.

I live a solitary existence. I could not tell you what year I last went on a date.

Oh come on man, you make a username called LeonPhelps, and when I make a clear joke referencing the character from the recurring SNL skits, you can't even pick up on that? Jesus dude, please remain in your self-imposed solitary confinement.

I even quoted your username to make it perfectly clear.

To be fair, I haven't thought about my username in a long time. It's not like I just recently picked it. This thread has been so serious that I assumed you were being serious. My bad.

The longest stretch I did while driving cross country (trucking) was 7 weeks so I could have a week off for an ungrateful bastard's wedding. Granted there's minor interactions at restaurants and truck stops, but nothing like hanging out at a bar. There was times where I'd go a week without normal conversation.

I could make it 3 months for sure, thing's might get weird after that but I think I would fare decently.

These are the insane ones, not the ones who can spend three weeks alone.
