0% is ran as a promotional offer for some car brands/models. 2017 Toyota Avalon, 2017 Subaru Outback and 2017 VW Passat are currently running 0% @ 60-72 month offers.
I probably should note that I don't buy new, I usually look for cars that are about 1 year old, so I'd imagine that's part of the reason why as well.

My bro-in-law is in the car business and loves telling the story about the one time that an old man said to him "Son, do you think I'm stupid?" and he replied "No, but I just had to make sure". Scum bags, all of them.
Lol. The last new car purchase we made was a little over 100k after all was said and done. Price was negotiated down. Then I brought my trade into play. Then we got the numbers where we wanted. Got the extended warranty for five bucks over cost because the guy figured he was going to hold points and make rate. Then broke out the preapproval from my credit union.
So he figures he will still make a 2% of the total amount financed... About 50k. Not too bad.
And then we started talking money down.
I actually ended up letting the guy hold .6% rate and do financing through him. Saved me a few bucks and he made a few bucks.
Negotiate one piece at a time.

Yeah. One year old has terrible rates compared to brand new. I can see why someone may line up their own financing in that situation.

Pentagon federal credit union will give you less than 2% most of the time
Right now they are 1.49% on new and 2.49% on used
