I hate how you pot heads think you can justify your argument for legalization by saying "just tax it bro". Because yeah the state government needs more of your money to waste right?

I hate the "tax the hell out of it" argument. How about just legalizing it because it's the right thing to do?

I don't try to justify anything. I just want to get stoned legally.

It's a bargaining chip.

It's well intentioned. It's supposed to show some tangible incentive to legalization. But imo it distracts from the real moral reason why it should be legalized that I wish more people could see why it should be legal. It isn't because it's some wonder drug either like some stoners would like to say.

It's because my self determination and autonomy from the control of the government and fellow man is a paramount right that should never be infringed as long as I am not participating in activity that directly and reasonably can be tied to harming others. I'm not talking about vague theoretical societal harm that can never be proven and when it comes down to it is completely subjective. I'm talking about direct harm. This link has never been reasonably made in any form when it comes to marijuana. This right to free will is perhaps the most important that we are born with as living beings right along with self preservation, and it is infuriating that so many people seem to have trouble accepting it.

Fack. I was hoping for it to be earlier. My court case is next week.

I thought desperate times called for desperate measures.

The point being, it's an incentive for people who don't smoke to support legalization. If pot is bringing in tax revenue, then maybe the state can stop gutting LSU, or can improve some infrastructure, or can not increase taxes in other areas.

Even more importantly, it's a way to appeal to the legislators who, you know, make the laws. At some point some of those tards in BR might notice the $100M Colorado generated last year.

It's not, and shouldn't be, the number one reason to legalize, but don't be such a turd that you can't acknowledge the appeal of this argument to non-smokers.

I've always hated the "tax and regulate" as a reason to legalize. Freedom should be enough, but it's not a very popular concept these days.

Freedom is very unpopular.

For real. Politics of fear used to manipulate people into accepting more laws and regulation at the expense of freedom.

People like freedom, theirs. Their afraid of the other guys.

Marijuana legalization is long overdue nationwide and can't come soon enough.

That being said, our bassackward state legislators probably won't get it done in our lifetime.

From what I can see, one of the largest problems with legalizing marijuana is regulating it's use from a public safety standpoint.

By this, I mean in the same way that alcohol is, ie no drinking and driving, no being drunk at work. Alcohol can be tested on the spot and the levels of it in your blood determined instantly, from what i understand this is not the case with marijuana.

I am all for legalizing weed (and all drugs for that matter), but I definitely see the "public safety" side of the argument. I don't want to be sharing the road with people who are impaired, whether that means drunk or high.

I wouldn't want a doctor high doing open heart surgery on me nor a coworker operating a overhead crane working above me. There is NO room for someone high in the work place or driving.

Normally I would say we would be dead last. However, I have much more faith in political greed than feigned morals.

There is too damn much money being made on this stuff and we are too broke to not break down and go this route. It is coming sooner than we think.

Millions of people smoke now and there's not a problem with people causing wrecks because they were driving while high. How would legalizing marijuana change that? It's not like everyone who used to smoke is just going to decide hey lets drive while high now, and studies have shown its not nearly as dangerous as driving drunk or texting while driving.
