Exactly. Unless you are counting Lafayette as Baton Rouge or you are counting Channelview as Houston.

It's actually higher than that when you factor in the 60 mph zones. But keeping with the flow of traffic, 78 is never "driving like an a-hole."

That's just preposterous.

why not just fly SW to Hobby from nola and back?

Um that's stupid. So drive 1 hour to airport get there an hour early fly an hour assuming no delays then another 30 taxi'ing and getting to rental car center. Yeah you don't save any time and it's about 4x more expensive.

I've done it multiple times. Yeah 78 is fast for some people, but for others(like me), it is slow. Unless there are cops or traffic, I don't touch anything under 85 on that stretch. Also no need to stop in that distance

I am the a-hole that makes it from BR to Dallas is 5.5hrs also not driving fast for me

You can make up much more time than you think by just stepping it up 10mph

I go from HOU-NOLA and back every other weekend. So fricking miserable, but I have surely learned when and when not to be on the road.

Driving 78 is fine, averaging 78 is pretty unbelievable especially since you have quite a bit that's 60 mph limit

This. With traffic alone it's impossible to average 78 because of the idiots in the left lane.

So when traffic frees up you'd likely have to drive minimum 90 mph to make up that average. Or like an a-hole.

I can make it from Houston to Nola in about 5 hrs with zero traffic and good weather. And that's me driving 85 much of the way. So Houston to BR is a solid 4 hrs. There's a lot of cops between Houston and Beaumont too that makes speeding tougher there.

I know somebody who made it from Houston to NO in 3.5 hours in a Porsche 930 turbo. At times he would hit 130. The reason I know this occurred was because I was white knuckling it in the passenger seat.

just watch for those areas that the cops love... i.e. the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge between BR & Laffy

State Police and Town of Henderson Police absolutely LOVE that bridge (hence why you can't really do 78 on the ABB)
