Don't go through Beaumont.

At the 873 exit in Orange head to Bridge City/Port Arthur...take Hwy 73 to Winnie. It is 5 minutes longer with no traffic...if there is traffic in Beaumont it could save you an hour or more.

This. Much more pleasant ride once you get East of Bridge City.

Driving 78 is fine, averaging 78 is pretty unbelievable especially since you have quite a bit that's 60 mph limit

Averaging for 273 miles?? Yes it is. I'm sorry, I don't think the entire population on I10 is clipping over the Basin bridge at 78 MPH. No time I have ever gone over it anyway.

Good advice, but I kind of want to hear how it goes for him zipping through Beaumont at 78mph.

Just stay out of the left lane gramps. It's not like there are surface streets between Houston and BR. It's interstate the entire way. 78 mph is nothing.

That's slightly over 10% faster then the posted speed limit.

It's actually higher than that when you factor in the 60 mph zones. But keeping with the flow of traffic, 78 is never "driving like an a-hole."

That's just preposterous.

But there are some 75 mph zones. But yes, 60 does bring it down.

BR to Hou in under 4 hours is pretty much standard if I don't stop and leave at times with little congestion.

I'm 28.

Do you have any clue where the IKEA is located in Houston. I'm going to go ahead and say you don't.

There is no way to drive from Baton Rouge to the Ikea in 3.5 hours, unless you are driving ridiculously fast. I go 78 plenty of the way between Baton Rouge and Houston, but to think that one can AVERAGE that speed the entire way to make that drive in 3.5 hours is pretty crazy.

Apparently its a piece of cake

I must drive slower than everyone else on the road because I have sure never made it from Ikea to my parents house (located in Shenandoah) in 3.5 hours.

Also begin your travels 9:30-11am or after 6:30pm if you want no traffic. Especially when going from Houston to BR

He's like the people who say they drive BR to Nola in 45 mins. It just doesn't happen.
