We weren't paying out 800 billion in welfare to over 20% of the population back then either

Yeah no shite.
Do you think that was fun or enjoyable for the people living it?
I understand America will survive, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some dark tough times ahead. And if we can help to soften or prevent some of those dark time we should be considering it.
The economic backlash from the response to the virus may be worse than the virus itself. That’s something important to consider.
We need to weigh our options here instead of tanking the economy because of ignorant panic

Honestly, I might be naive. But I think I get way ahead during this time. I'm still working. Most of the bills I pay are going to push payments and give grace (student loans, credit cards, rent and car note). The others (cell phone, insurances, etc) will be understanding and will have programs to help. There will be tons of aides and other tools to get more assistance. Maybe even loan programs and job opportunities. I'm excited for what's to come..

That was an entirely different and far more self sufficient populace with far less debt for the average person.
We may get another Great Depression one day, but it would be incredibly stupid to bring one on voluntarily in the hopes of saving a few thousand people.

Something like 75% of this country doesn’t have the savings to cover a week of bills much less a month of everything without a paycheck. And our government cannot afford to float the population’s entire life for a month.
And probably a large percentage of that number are living far above their actual means and skating by paycheck to paycheck.
I know a lot of people like that who have a bigger house than what they need, brand new cars in the garage, boats, motorcycles and other trappings of a successful life and they are living week to week paying for all that shite.
