The City and the Parish are simultaneously the same yet distinct entities. The long term goal is to split them apart again, but that cannot feasibly be accomplished without massive disruptions to government services (to both city AND parish residents) until that debt is dealt with. This debt was accumulated by previous administrations, NOT the current one.

This compromise helps fix the immediate budget crisis without raising taxes or disrupting public services. It also helps clear the way to reconsolidating the city/parish government in the future.

Like I have said previously, this plan is not perfect, but it is a step in the right direction. All of the long term goals the conservative detractors have are actually FURTHERED by this initiative and sabotaged by opposing it.

The detractors on this board are allowing the perfect to be the enemy of the good, rejecting pragmatic incrementalism in favor of demanding bigger changes for which little political will currently exists, and are objectively collectively cutting their noses to spite their faces.

Have you ever made a post without being insulting and angry? Seriously man.

And you're wrong. The library is already using a rolled back millage of 9.89 vs the approves 11.1. THRIVE will charge us the full 11.1, which is why our property tax bill will INCREASE of THRIVE is passed. They are over funded at even the 9.89 rate, and THRIVE would lock us in to that rate for another 10 years. Co

Coach is headed in the right direction. Codifying something that is inadequate, however, is a great way to ensure further failure. We have the opportunity to do better. When they propose better, I'll vote yes. This ain't it.

I have not read anything that says that. If it does go up, it will likely be hardly noticeable. If THRIVE does not pass, it is my opinion the alternative will be more noticeable.

ETA: spelling

See my above post. We are currently paying a rolled back library millage of 9.89. It will revert tback to 11.1 to fund THRIVE. Your property tax bill will go up if THRIVE passes.
People are ignoring this .....well, some are.

The Library Board can vote to move its dedicated property tax millage to the full 11.1 mills EVEN IF THRIVE FAILS! You're being dishonest by only assuming one side of the story.

I personally believe the Library Board knows how bad it would look for them to support THRIVE by touting taxes will not go up and if it passes they would immediately raise their dedicated millage to the full amount.

I'm pretty sure the C-P Council would start removing Library Board members in that case.

Well we have beat this horse to death.

Just answer me this:

Why won’t they put on the ballot exactly what the money will be spent on? They do supposedly already know.

They sure can.

But if THRIVE passes our tax bills go up immediately. You're changing your argument anyway. You said:

an accomplishment Coach Edwards achieved just by getting the Library Board, the Council on Aging and the Bug and Rat Board to agree to support having their dedicated property taxes shaved a little

You didn't even know we were already paying the rolled back millage of 9.89, because you hit me with your usual "link" request.

Once again, I knew something you didnt- and you get angry and change your tune.

Honest question, does the City of BR have debt, or is it that the Parish of EBR has debt?

Probably because it would make the ballot 2 or 3 pages long.

Edwards has outlined ad nauseam the big picture for how the tax swap money will be spent to benefit the whole parish.

You just refuse to learn about it.

No they don't. It would take votes of the 3 agency boards to do that.

Because you can't produce a link which says taxes will automatically go up if THRIVE passes.

Look, I'm done arguing with you.

As Mark Twain said, "Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

You've beaten me down...

LOL. Boy are you fooling yourself. Yeah, it’s to save ink and paper. Roll eyes. You can’t be this naive.

Yeah, so just trust me bro right? Which is exactly what he has said. No lie. It’s going in the general fund but trust me bro. Nothings gonna change how we spend it. That’s a big no from me. Kinda like the saying you must pass it before you read it? LOL. Damn people are so gullible.

Nope. I know all about it. Do you know that in official press releases and websites he directs people to don’t spell it out what he says he will do?

And btw, we are talking 10 years of taxes. You don’t think mayors change in this time? Parish Council members? By putting it in the general fund they can change their minds. You do realize this right?

But yeah, trust them so it’s not 2 or 3 pages long.

Muh too long a ballot!

Continuing to hammer the point home, here are the 2023 and 2024 rolled back millages we have been paying. Passing THRIVE immediately raises the millage back to 11.1, and codifies the 9.89 millage for the library, which is still a rate which grossly overfunds the system. YOUR PROPERTY TAXES IMMEDIATELY INCREASE IF THRIVE PASSES.

You lost all credibility in the thread when you asked for a link to the reduced millage rate we have been paying. You didn't even know. You're in here championing a tax measure you don't even know the basic facts of.

And right on brand, you continue insults because you can't win factually. I might be a dumbarse, but I can make you look foolish. So what does that say about you?

Just trust them bro!

The ballot will be too long if we spell out exactly what we say it will be spent on!

Just trust me bro!
