I'm talking in general, or for your current SO / future spouse.

The chick I'm seeing just had her report come back in the 800s and I'm honestly shocked. Very pleased, but shocked.

Considering it is a deciding factor in everyday life now (even getting insurance for home/auto) it's pretty freaking huge.

It's only important when you need to borrow. At this point in my life not very. However it may be a good sign in a woman. It may also be a sign that she has $30k in credit card debt with like $100k limits. Beware!

How is the 800's shocking? Just pay your bills (and have a few loans so there's a history).

Edit, just checked mine. Not the full 3 bureau report just something capital one has with Fair Isaac but it is 813

A cool Convertible or an SUV?
Too bad I didn't know my credit was whack
'Cause now I'm driving off a lot in a used sub-compact

Credit Report dot com, baby
Saw their ads on my TV
Thought about going but was too lazy
So instead of looking fly and rollin' phat
My legs are sticking to the vinyl and my posse's getting laughed at

Everyone I've ever talked to is in the 700s, I'm between 750-800. I was just surprised, that's all.

I should have somewhat expected it though, she's got her shite together.

I would have to see an itemized credit report and a 1040 to be impressed. A credit score alone can be misleading.

Obviously it's important, but I don't keep track of it. I know mine should be high and if it gets pulled and comes back low, I would worry about what is wrong then.

How's that exactly?
To much credit used...low score
Not enough ... low score
% of credit available used...low score
Bad payments...low score
Slow payments...low score
Missed payments...low score
To many credit runs attempting to buy...low score

Pretty reflective of credit usage to most of the planet.

A baws making $40K a year could have 80K+ in school loans, a 50K truck loan, 10K in revolving credit debt and still have a high 700's credit score.

I wouldn't say that individual is in good financial footing.

She's got a decent job.

Just asked about the other stuff. No student loans, no debt other than a credit card that she pays off monthly and her car is $1,000 away from being paid off.

It's the difference between getting/keeping your new job/job.

I have not checked my credit score in 20 years. I have no idea what it is.

No they can't man. That's where the % of monthly outstanding credit owed versus available comes into play. Wow.

Want to Check my truth in the matter? check your credit score today. Go get a new credit card, and max that thing out as soon as you get it. Pay it a couple months minimum payment. Recheck that credit score and watch. Dropping like rock.

It's not a high priority for me. It's mid 700s but I don't have much need for it. I have already got my mortgage and I try to focus on my savings to not use financing.

I just got married, I don't know her credit score because she's never financed anything but student loans. More importantly I know that she is responsible with money, aside from buying too much clothes.
