Couldn't find anyone to build my mom's cabinets after the flood. My brother and I, having never done it, built them all out of redwood over a couple weekends and installed them last night in about 4 hours. Not too hard and they look perfect

Must be both plumb, level, and square especially the bottoms if not when your tops are installed it will show. Hard surface tops don't bend. Great advice! I hope I didn't give the impression it's "easy", because anything that will look good and professional as a novice won't be, just meant with a little time, effort, and thought most people can do it.

It's not hard if you know what you are doing and have a competent buddy, not something to just tackle on your own unless you are a pretty good DIY'er. You can pretty much forget using lasers and screwing material to the walls, a good 2-foot and a 4-foot level is all you need, some pre-cut (about an inch longer than the installed height of the uppers) 1x2's to make a pair of legs to rest the back edge of the cabinet on, and a cordless drill with a 3/16" drill bit to pilot the holes and a 1/4" impact to run the screws. Have plenty of shim stock and wedges handy too. I did trim carpentry for a while and you'll spend more time squaring and leveling out-of-square cabinets to even more so walls floors.
