When doing initial evaluations for base lines etc and routine followups, as most do I stay at the Rotary House. When I went through stem cell, the wife and I rented an apartment on a monthly basis at Elan Center Very nice place and very accommodating.

Is that something insurance would cover?
Not in my experience. You basically spend your life savings trying to save your life.

Anderson has living quarters for specific situations like yours.
Yeah, but it ain’t cheap. And if you do t have a supplemental cancer policy, you’re on the hook for it.

There is a Ronald McDonald house nearby if it is kid related. I'm crying.
But look for affiliated charities (Gary Sinise Foundation, etc.,) that the patient may be associated with.

We also have a private pilot group in Louisiana that does this for residents who want a trip to Houston or Memphis.
Pilots For Patients I think it’s called

Depends upon length of treatment etc.. I live in West University (just a mile or so west of MD Anderson) And have seen many, many posts on our neighborhood facebook page (West U Information Exchange is the name of it) of people coming in for treatment and looking for rentals in the neighborhood. I've seen several responses of people with garage quarters they are willing to rent out or even some smaller homes, depending upon budget. Apartments in the area are prob around 1,800-2,000/month for one bedroom. It is centrally located and in a very safe part of town. Let me know if you look into other areas of Houston and I can help with what to expect commute wise, crime, costs, etc..
I do not know regarding cost reimbursement. Both of my inlaws traveled through for treatment at MD Anderson at some point, on their own dollar but they had a free place to stay. A call to your insurance will help clarify out of pocket travel costs and I wouldn't be surprised if the hospital themselves have services to help find short term housing.

that is a very good point. Housing market in Houston is much rosier than in Baton Rouge. If you have means to buy, you will likely make some money if you purchase wisely. The areas west of the Med Center are very good investments. (Bellaire, West University, Rice Village, Old Braeswood areas).
If it were my family member, I would not advise areas around Reliant Stadium. It is close to the aforementioned areas, but really not super safe after dark. Just an uglier spot in town/homeless under bridges. I'd be extra depressed being sick and having to live there. If my budget only allowed an apartment near Reliant, I'd likely look a bit further away..

Rotary house hotel is the name of the hotel.
Correct.
Also, the InterContinental is nearby and a nice and more affordable option. They offer “patient rates” for folks getting cancer treatment in the area.
