Some people have trashed Shinola by saying that it's cheap Chinese parts merely assembled in Detroit. If people want to overpay for a timepiece and it's a thriving American company, who really cares?

As long as people understand what they're buying, I doubt many people care. Won't surprise me if Shinola becomes the watch version of Luxottica for American men's brands. Has already happened with Filson.

I'm looking for something conservative and not flashy in the $400 - $600 range.

I don't like to draw a lot of attention to myself, at least as it pertains to a watch.

I like classic, clean styles with not too much going on. Additionally, I'd like a leather band as I currently don't have one.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
it looks decent enuf

I tend to stick with simple and swiss, but not super expensive.

I picked up a mondaine for 125.00. it went up a bit in price, but still affordable

I would tend toward Tissot, Citizen, Christopher Ward in that range, as they're all watchmakers rather than designers. All would give you a very solid watch and all have a wide variety of conservative, classic designs.

It's a little basic, but I do like it.

I really like the CW Trident's if you are looking for a dive watch.

I have a few Citizens and Seikos, prefer Seiko to Citizen.

Hamiltons are a good option in your range/style, I always forget them

There's nothing remarkable about those Hamiltons. I'd take any Stowa before any Hamilton.

My two favorite watches are a Hamilton Jazzmaster thinline and a Tissot auto. I wear the Tissot more, but I love the Hamilton also.

I just can't wear a watch that thin. I did pick up another watch yesterday.

I love it. I hate the thick watches that I seem to ram into everything.

Oh, you'd take a watch which costs 2-3x as much and the watches pictured and has a several month wait for production? Thanks for the valuable info. What a unique opinion.

Herp derp!
