This.
Its been eerily quiet the last two weeks. Everyone I know that was affected busted arse and got things ripped out of their homes to mitigate damage. FEMA has been extremely frustrating to deal with. I've posted before about my brother and the vast inequity in money being handed out. There is absolutely no consistency. The house next door to my brother got $17K. After two denied appeals, my brother got $2500. Same damage, same amount of water. The house across the street only got water in the front, and they ended up with $4K. No one can explain or give them answers.
And dealing with insurance is no picnic either. I know a family that had $200K structure/ $100K contents thats fighting with their insurance over the definition of "damage". Their first adjuster tried to tell them a couch that sat in 18" of water was "salvagable" and they were only going to pay for cleaning.

- Exactly. I can understand a house that has flooded every time we get heavy rains, but houses that have not flooded in almost half a century should not be in that category. Topped off with FEMA basing everything on a false premise of a 1,000 year flood, they are strangling an entire region with their overreach. If you dropped 25-30" of rain within 2 days anywhere in the country, you would have equal or worse flooding than we had. I suppose FEMA should go ahead and require the entire country to raise their houses to mitigate future flooding? Is downtown Houston being required to raise up given how often it's flooded the last few years?

All that is required to receive FEMA money right now is to lie. Period. Makes me sick. I've seen folks with total loss who make $10 an hour in a single home get denied while other who make over 100k as a family get a couple thousand dollars in DSNAP funds. See 3 houses side by side in a neighborhood of similar value, similar standing in life, no insurance, and one gets $8k, one gets 0, and one gets $30k. No rhyme or reason to it.

The max for a family of 4 for DSNAP was under $900
Most got just under $700

Mother fricker....you can go eat a fricking dick. I'm not asking if you approve of what I said. I'm telling you what people got. I couldnt give two shits less what most people got, what the max is, etc. If you also note I said that people are just going in and lieing about what they make, losses, etc, etc. That was the point.
