A license plate scanner is all they need. No need to do anything other than that. Your license plate is linked to your registration and your inspection sticker. Just by scanning the plate and hitting the database, they instantly know whether you're on expired registration or inspection sticker. They really don't even need to look at the color of the registration sticker or the inspection sticker to know if it's out of date.
Not in Louisiana. The inspection sticker is not in any type of database whatsoever. The cop can run the plate and see if insurance is valid, registration is current, and if he wants to, run the attached driver's license number to check that too. But, the inspection sticker is a stand alone thing that is not linked to any database. Only way to catch those is by expiration date or if it is fake.

You don’t have to have insurance in the same state your car is registered in. I’m living proof. I have a LA tag and Oklahoma insurance. Never switched to this expensive louisiana insurance when I moved.
Good luck getting that policy to pay out when you hit someone.

That's a fricking racket that needs to be abolished.

I bought a car in 2010 and never renewed the sticker until I totaled it this year. In the midst of the chaos around me immediately after the wreck all I kept thinking about was how I was gonna get a ticket for an expired tag.

They take every opportunity to make money, so you're getting a ticket for no or expired brake tag

I haven’t had an inspection sticker on my Jeep in years
Does this mean your registration was also expired for years?
In TX you have to show proof of inspection to renew registration every time.

I’m just saying without reading the thread, inspection stickers are such a fricking racket.

If you get in a wreck, even if it’s not your fault, they can (and will) ticket you. We were rear ended and still got ticketed in St. Charles parish because the sticker was expired by a few days.
