wind up in Baton Rouge? I just heard his voice in the background--I'd know it anywhere--and assumed it was some national broadcast. I almost shite my pants (ok, I did a little) when I realized he was on local. Dude was such a huge part of my youth with CNN Sports Tonight and their Play of the Day. Brought humor to highlights before Sportscenter. ESPN wound up poaching a lot of that talent.

I'll be damned--Fred MF'n Hickman.

So he is in B.R. now? He was doing local N.O. sports coverage for fox 8. Is he a local guy?1

Didn't Nick Charles die not too long ago? Dan Patrick. Vince Cellini. Hannah Storm and that boring Dan dude she married. Van Mother fricking Earl Wright. GOAT sports highlight show.

if Nick Charles can go from being a mafia hit man -- at least that's what he looked like -- to doing sports on CNN, then anything is possible

His downfall has been well documented. He was booted from New Orleans local about a year ago.

Fred doesn't seem to be into it doing BR news but you can't really blame him. He has a lot of flubs and weird moments when I've watched him. Usually after keeping the TV on NBC too long after SNF.

SportsCenter anchor John Anderson still begins his top 10 plays segment by saying "Number 10...Fred." This is an inside joke done to pay homage to Hickman's tenure. The origins of it come from when one PA wrote out the top 10 play list by giving name indications on each play. Number 10, in this case, was given to Hickman and marked "Fred" on the prompter. Hickman, in turn, read "Number 10...Fred " on air. Anderson supposedly asked producers if he should continue with his Hickman joke after he was gone. The answer was a resounding "yes."
